Four days ago, I discovered that I have low testosterone.
I’m not just writing this for me, though. I’m probably not the only guy in his late twenties walking around with low testosterone. You don’t have to take it lying down, because I’m definitely not.
Discovering you have low testosterone in your twenties isn’t a death sentence.
I’m getting ahead of myself, though. How did I go from being in the dark to checking my blood work? Why did I get tested?
Let’s go back 3 years.
In 2013, I lost 115 pounds in six months. In the three years since, I’ve been gaining and losing the same 30 pounds.
No matter whether I was focused on muscle building and strength or fat loss, I didn’t make any progress during that 3 years
I was eating clean 28 days out of every month and training seriously, but after a few months I hit the wall. My strength hasn’t increased and there hasn’t been any changes in my body after those first few months.
Every man must be strong.
I wanted to be fit, strong, and healthy. If you’re not fit, strong, and healthy then you’re not much of a man.
That hasn’t been happening. I’m a little stronger than I was in November 2013, but I’m not in better shape. My body looks almost exactly the same as it did in 2013, just a little bigger.
I knew something was wrong, but I didn’t know what it was. I did have my suspicions, and all of them were wrong.
I had my blood work done to find out.
I didn’t go to a doctor. I used Private MD Labs, and I recommend you do the same.
With Private MD Labs, you choose what you want tested and how much you want to pay. I chose the Female Hormone Panel because it’s cheaper.
No, that’s not going to affect your results. You choose your gender after you select the test, so they know you’re male. The female hormone panel is a third the cost of the male hormone panel because it’s less comprehensive.
For my follow up test, I’m going to be using the more expensive test for males. If you don’t already know your testosterone is low, save your money and get the female panel.
I paid for the test I wanted, printed out a form, and went to the lab.
I waited for maybe thirty minutes, which was unusual. They were abnormally busy that day. Not a big deal.
The lab tech drew blood from my hand, since they’d failed to get it from both my arms. That can happen, but it’s not a big deal. A blown vein just means a little bruise.
Three days later I got my results via e-mail.
I was floored by the results.
I said before I had my suspicions, and now I’ll tell you what they were.
Diabetes runs in my family, which isn’t uncommon. Just about everybody has a diabetic in the family.
My fasting glucose level was 87. Not diabetic.
I lost a lot of weight in a short period of time. That isn’t good for your thyroid.
My entire metabolic panel looked great. No thyroid dysfunction.
My total testosterone was 268.
That’s lower than the average 85 year old man. I’m 26.
I was shocked. I’ve got an insatiable sex drive and more body hair than the average grizzly bear.
I thought I had high testosterone. I was wrong.
Most guys think they have high testosterone. They’re wrong too.
We could get into the how’s and why’s, but it’s ultimately unimportant.
Yes, we grew up eating food laced with hormones. Yes, we grew up spending more time inside than our fathers.
It doesn’t matter.
What does matter is that you do something about it.
What matters is that you don’t spiral.
For a good three days, I was an absolute zombie. Looking back, I’m not sure why.
I wasn’t any different than I was before I got that test done. I was still the same man.
Don’t spiral down into depression. It would be very easy to spiral if you’ve got low testosterone like me.
Spiraling Doesn’t Just Affect You.
I was depressed. I had a severe lack of the hormone that makes a man a man.
Part of being your own boss is the fact that no one can force you to do anything. I felt like shit and didn’t want to get out of bed. I slept 16 hours each day like a neutered house cat.
My wife was seriously concerned, because I’m the leader of my house. I’m the answer man. My ship was sailing without a captain.
This is where most people start to spiral further. Using techniques I’ve been learning, I stopped myself from spiraling out of control.
I stood back from my ego and looked at the situation.
Just the fact that I COULD stay in bed all day if I wanted to made me different from the norm. I can do whatever I want. I’ve built exactly the life I want, and that’s something to be proud of.
How to draw confidence from your past with low testosterone:
Past accomplishments are going to be different for you than they are for me, but these are mine.
I’m a successful businessman, a family man with two kids, a good shot, and a decent fighter.
I became all of that while fighting an uphill battle against my body. That’s incredible!
I told myself, “Imagine how much you’ll be able to achieve when you’ve got optimum testosterone!”
It’ll be the difference between Clark Kent and Superman. I’ll be able to get much more done and do it with much less effort than I do now.
I have no doubt that you’ve accomplished some things in your life. You succeeded even though it was an uphill battle.
Finding out you have low testosterone is the best thing that could’ve happened to you.
You already had low testosterone. You just didn’t know it. Now that you know it, you can do something about it.
You could’ve been like most men with low testosterone who don’t address it until they’re fifty with limp dicks and zero drive.
You could’ve ended up divorced or cuckolded with kids who hate you, even if you chose the right woman to have kids with. You could’ve built up a business only to lose it when your drive and passion fully dissipate.
Don’t take that as an excuse to do nothing.
I’ve managed to build a pretty cool life with low testosterone. That gives me more drive to do something about my testosterone. My already great life will be that much better soon.
Don’t use your past accomplishments as an excuse to not fix your problems. Use them to avoid becoming so depressed that you just stay in bed all day. It isn’t going to be easy, but you have to do it.
Make the Appointment.
I can’t tell you the full story on getting on testosterone. I haven’t done it yet.
What I have done is made the first appointment and bought the next set of tests from Private MD Labs. That’s what I recommend you do, because that’s the first step.
You could get the run-around from your doctor. To mitigate that, I’m going to an anti-aging clinic right off the bat.
I can afford to do that, but if I couldn’t then I’d be searching for a good doctor that accepts my insurance.
Make the appointment. Get started NOW.
Turn your sob story into a success story. Every day you don’t get started is another day you’re going to feel like shit.
You’re Not Alone.
The more I thought about it, the more I wondered how many other men were like me last week, completely in the dark.
I thought about how many men were taking testosterone in their mid-twenties and didn’t have anyone to talk to.
I’ll be covering what happens to me in my testosterone journey as it happens, in real time. I don’t have all the answers, but I’m going to find them. I’ll share them here at Business and Bullets, because I know I’m not alone.
A lot of guys are worried about what taking testosterone would entail. Well, I was worried for about three days. I’m done with worrying, and now I’m acting.
I’m going to do what I always do: conduct the experiment that is my life and share my results.
Here’s two videos I did on Youtube while writing this post.
