I don’t particularly enjoy doing book reviews. I will gladly make recommendations, but I don’t like to do reviews. Good books, useful books, don’t need to be reviewed because they speak for themselves.
The vast majority of self improvement books are completely useless. A few hundred pages of feel-good fluff, affirmations, and other steaming pieces of crap. Every now and then you find an exception.
Gorilla Mindset is a shining example of the exception that proves the rule.
Before we talk about Gorilla Mindset, we should talk about Mike Cernovich. With material on mindset, you should be as interested in the author as you are in the book. Maybe more.
About Mike Cernovich
Mike Cernovich is simply not simple. You can’t look at any one thing he’s done and think you know what he’s about.
In Gorilla Mindset, he projects a can-do attitude that promotes YOUR growth over his.
In his seminars, he’s better than any professor I’ve ever had by far.
On his twitter, he calls out people with huge followings and doesn’t pull any punches or mince words.
On his podcast, he covers everything from diet and nutrition to experiences of altered reality to business and practical finance.
On his blog, Danger and Play, you’ll find all the above and more. Danger and Play has been about everything from rough sex to men’s lifestyle advice to what he calls “the new men’s media”. He’s one of the busiest, most prolific guys on the entire internet.
The only thing you can say about Mike Cernovich to make sense of it all is that he’s doing what he wants, every single day, and allowing all of us to come along for the ride.
Sounds to me like a guy with a mindset worth learning about.
About Gorilla Mindset
Gorilla Mindset isn’t a 30 page ebook, it’s a full length book.
Gorilla Mindset isn’t a book full of fluffy flutter that makes you all warm and tingly inside. It’s not a kick in the teeth like 30 Days of Discipline, either. It’s more like a long series of calls to action with lots of information on how to take that action.
In a similar fashion to 30 Days of Discipline, there are worksheets in the book. Cernovich has said that when someone asks for help on an issue he covers in the book, he asks to see their worksheets. He didn’t put them in there to swell the page count, he put them in there for you to track your progress.
The #1 way to tell if a book (and author) is full of shit is when they claim that buying the book will instantly solve your problems.
Buying Gorilla Mindset will not solve your problems.
Acting on what you read in Gorilla Mindset will allow YOU to solve YOUR problems.
This is a theme that applies to all of Mike’s projects. He gives you information, and it’s up to you to implement it. I’ll give you another example of this with another of his projects I haven’t yet discussed.
About Fit Juice
Fit Juice is near and dear to me because it has helped me more than anything Mike Cernovich has done other than Gorilla Mindset.
I’ve talked about my health issues in the past, and I’ve talked about how I lost a lot of weight and messed up my health. I’m not the only one who’s had this problem. All of these problems have become manageable or non-existent thanks to regular consumption of green juice.
Yes, a zero carbohydrate (or close to zero) diet will cause excess weight to shed like snake skin. It’ll also mess up your body’s ability to process sugar and ruin your thyroid. It also leads to nutrient deficiencies.
I make up for my diet’s deficiencies with green juices and I hope you will too.
The volume of nutrients I get from juicing hit my system like a high. For the first few weeks I felt like a new man. Now that I’m that new man, I’ll never go back.
My favorite recipe from Fit-Juice is one of Mike’s beet juices. I add a lot of kale to mine, and I’m positive he adds more kale than he recommends in his recipes. Kale is something most folks have to work up to, because straight kale juice isn’t very tasty.
Kale, spinach, ginger, cucumber, and beet juice is very good, though. You might have to add an apple to yours at first. Mike already wrote the book on juicing, so I’m not going to elaborate.
I didn’t set out with the goal of fixing any one issue when I started juicing, but I’m not exaggerating the benefits. I feel good all the time. Before I started drinking green juices, I felt shitty. That’s enough science for me.
If there’s only one take-away from this review, I want it to be that Gorilla Mindset has been even better for my life than juicing, and green juices have absolutely changed my life.
More About Gorilla Mindset
Gorilla Mindset is a great book. Don’t believe me? Check its ranking.
Gorilla Mindset isn’t a repackaging of content from Danger and Play, although there is a book for that, too. Gorilla Mindset is where all the things Mike has talked about before really come together. He covers everything.
Affirmations. Mantras. Posture. Breathing. Money. Trends. Lifestyle. Fitness. (And More)
Most people would have taken the content for Gorilla Mindset and separated it into chunks. They’d have taken those chunks and added a lot of fillers, graphics, and tables. They’d have released Gorilla Mindset as 10 smaller books and charged as much for each book as Mike charges for one complete book.
Why Is Gorilla Mindset Useful
If you have to ask why after everything I’ve already said, then maybe there’s not much hope in helping you after all.
Gorilla Mindset is useful because it’s applicable. Not a single part of it is impractical. It’s a complete work.
To make Gorilla Mindset even more of a complete work, Mike did a series of Youtube videos that could be considered Gorilla Mindset part 2. Once you’ve read the book, life will go on and you will be a changed man. The work never stops, though, and Cernovich is demonstrating the next steps in his own life.
Who Is Gorilla Mindset For
Most people who think they want information on how to improve their life actually want affirmation that their lives will be shit no matter what they do. That’s most people. There is actually a minority of people that need that information and will use it when they have it.
Gorilla Mindset is for the people who need it. Okay, well then who needs Gorilla Mindset?
Damn near everyone needs to read Gorilla Mindset.
Not everyone will, and not everyone who reads Gorilla Mindset will take action. If you already know you’re looking for an excuse, Gorilla Mindset isn’t for you. When you’ve had enough of being a sheep you can come back and try again.
Some people like living with their heads buried in the sand. Some people (myself included) do not.
Why Did I Buy Gorilla Mindset
I bought Gorilla Mindset before I even started reading Danger and Play, which is probably unusual. Most of the people who have read Gorilla Mindset already knew who Mike Cernovich was before they bought it.
It was actually the opposite for me.
I bought Gorilla Mindset on recommendation from Chris at Good Looking Loser. I had actually found Danger and Play and clicked away because (at the time) they were discussing the same topics. I wrongly assumed that there was nothing of value for me at Danger and Play.
I followed Chris’s recommendation anyway, because I’d been following some of his advice and it never led me astray. That’s how I found Bold and Determined. Lo and behold, I found where Victor Pride had been talking about Mike Cernovich and his projects!
Two people I’d never met had both endorsed this book. These two people had already tremendously changed my life for the better with their content. What did I have to lose?
I’m very glad I did. Reading and implementing Gorilla Mindset led to an appreciation of Mike Cernovich as a man and made me a lifetime customer. I’ll always be interested in anything he produces, and I think you will too.
What Was The Most Useful Part Of Gorilla Mindset For Me/ Why I Reread Gorilla Mindset
This is actually kind of hard for me to answer.
Gorilla Mindset is not exactly like a book. It doesn’t read like a stack of pages, it reads like a wheel.
When I read a chapter, something in my mind would click. I would then flip back to a previous chapter and have a better understanding of it. Everything in Gorilla Mindset is connected.
You will better understand the chapter on self talk after reading the chapter on money.
You will better understand the chapter on posture after you read the chapter on visualization.
You will better understand the chapter on checking in after you read the chapter on fitness.
It’s all connected in Gorilla Mindset because it’s all connected in reality. It’s all useful for me because it’s not something you learn once and fix. I reread Gorilla Mindset because I will always need what Gorilla Mindset teaches.
Choice, Fitness, and Money will always be important in my life. I will never become so great at decision making that I never need to reread Gorilla Mindset. I will never become so fit or so rich that I never want to become more fit and more wealthy.
I don’t think anyone will ever master life to the point that Gorilla Mindset won’t offer them something with each reading. I don’t think there’s a single person on this planet that wouldn’t get something out of it. That’s why I decided to review Gorilla Mindset even though I hate reviewing books.
I hope you read it. I hope you apply it. I wish everyone would.
The world would be a better place.
Get After It.
