My motto is Live Free, Make Money, Pack Iron.
This is part one of a three part series.
This article is on living a free life.
What Does it mean to Live Free?
We could get really technical with our definition of Living Free, but we won’t.
For our purposes, to Live Free is to know what you want, be able to do what you want, and ACTUALLY DO WHAT YOU WANT.
Simple as that.
You have to:
- Know what you want.
- Actually be in a position to do what you want.
- Actually DO WHAT YOU WANT.
Specifically HOW to live free is going to be different for everyone. We all want different things.
Its true that we all want the same basic things, but beyond those basic needs everyone’s wants are different. With that said, there are some mistakes that will prevent you from living free, no matter what you want.
First we’ll look into types of people relative to living free, then later on I’ll outline some things to avoid if you want to live a free life.
Are you living Free?
Usually, people who work for someone else go on lots of vacations that don’t make them happy.
People who work for themselves can go where ever they want but they usually don’t go anywhere they don’t already go for work.
For example, my dad has never seen the world outside the Carolinas. His dad lived within driving distance of the ocean and never saw it. They were/are both self employed businessmen.
People who go on vacations and get into debt usually want to be free and work for themselves yet for some reason they do the opposite.
People who worked for years to be free get so stuck in their routine that they don’t do anything but work, when they say they want to go and do other things (like being free).
The difference is, people who are in debt can’t do anything. People who are free and don’t do what they “want” either don’t truly want it or they aren’t really free.
If you’re the guy who’s buried up to his neck in debt, you’re not free and you need to work on that first. Read on if you need the motivation.
If you’re already free, you need to figure out what’s more important to you. It may be that you are already living free and doing exactly what you want. You just didn’t realize it.
If that’s you, great. You can stop focusing on what you think you want, and focus on what you really want.
We’ve covered two types of guys already: the kind who aren’t free at all and the kind who are free and don’t realize it. There is a third type, the man who isn’t free but thinks he his. Most men fall into this category.
Being Free VS Thinking You’re Free
I’ve talked at length about these kinds of guys, so I’ll keep this short.
The kind of guy who thinks he’s free and isn’t usually plays by the rules.
He went to school and college (and thinks it was his choice). He got married to some girl (and thinks it was his choice). He works some job (and thinks it was his choice).
Are you noticing the pattern? He was doing the things he was told he wanted without ever actually auditing his life to determine what he actually wants.
Not only is this poor schmuck NOT living free, he’s so brainwashed that he can’t even fulfill the first requirement: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT.
What You Want Vs What You’re Told You Want
You can’t go after what you want without first understanding what you want. If you “want” what society is willing to give you, then of course you’re free to have it.
Society is more than willing to allow you to go to college and accumulate debt.
No one is going to punish you (at least, not up front) for getting married to some woman.
The world is more than happy to allow you to slave away making someone else richer.
The people who want their life handed to them on a silver plate aren’t free. They’re slaves to the system. They’ve never sat back and tried to determine what they actually want, so they settle for what they’re told they want.
The latest model sedan. A big house in the suburbs. The college degree you spent 4 years getting – 4 years of your life you can never have back.
Pop culture, advertising, and television have told us what we want for years. We don’t have to actually think about what we want, so most never do.
If you were going to have millions of slaves, wouldn’t your operation be a lot easier and more profitable if you could convince the slaves they wanted to be slaves?
This is exactly what’s happened to you – not only are you living a life of slavery, you’ve been convinced you WANT to live a life of slavery. Freedom isn’t for you, no sir.
You’re not a taker, you’re a receiver.
Freedom is for the Takers
If you want to be free from this system, the first thing you have to take is your freedom.
Have you ever heard the saying “take the initiative”? It’s not “be given the initiative”.
Your first act of defiance is taking back your freedom. Decide what you actually want. That’s the first step.
This is also where you’re going to start running into problems.
The logical second step, after deciding what you want, is to put yourself in a position to take it. This can be problematic if you’ve been living a slave’s life. You’ve got too much holding you back.
People and things will be holding you back. The only acceptable response is to cut ties with all of them.
Excuses are irrelevant.
Is your adult son a junkie? Cut him out of your life.
“But he’s my baby boy!”
No, he’s not. He’s a grown ass man and he can take care of himself.
Either you fucked up raising him, or he’s fucked up on his own. Maybe both. Either way, it’s his problem now.
Is your girlfriend such a shop-a-holic that you have to spend your business’s money on household expenses?
Tell her to cut back or you’re cutting her loose.
“But she’s the love of my life!”
No, she’s the woman you’re fucking right now. With around 2,999,999,999 other women on this planet, the odds of you suffering a celibate lifestyle for the rest of your life are pretty slim.
If she’s preventing you from living the life you want, she’s not the right woman for you anyway. Ditch that bitch before you make the mistake of marrying her.
Is your boss an insufferable hard-ass that “forces” you to spend weekends on the job?
You can’t build your business like that. If you can build your business while using money from your day job to pay the bills, do that.
If you can’t because your dickhead boss is riding you like he stole you, simply stop being his bitch boy.
Walk into his office and say the four easiest words you’ve never said:
FUCK THIS, I QUIT.
The Truth About Living Free
Being free isn’t that hard.
You’ll find that when you’ve audited your life and cut out the dead weight, doing what you want comes naturally. The place where you’ll spend the most effort isn’t in doing what you want.
Living free is more about NOT DOING what you DON’T WANT.
I’ll use myself as an example.
Very recently, I got out of the trucking business. I could easily re-enter the field if I wanted, since I kept the important licenses.
I could make a lot more money if I kept the truck and found more clients, but I’d have a lot more stress than I want. The hardest part of being in the trucking business is the fact that you often can’t get paid.
Your clients have to sell your product to pay the guy who brought their last shipment. Then they have to sell product they get from the next guy to pay you.
Meanwhile, your suppliers expect to be paid in 10 days whether you’ve been paid or not.
Add in to this that you have to take on a constant stream of clients like this to make money with a truck. Every second your truck is parked is opportunity wasted.
So even though I could stay in this field, I’m not. The extra money isn’t worth the headache to me, and I’m free to make that call.
If I were broke as a joke, I wouldn’t be free to make that decision. I took my freedom, decided what I want, and now I’m free to NOT DO what I DON’T WANT.
The Same Applies to Business and Bullets.
I could bang out 50 generic gun reviews of various guns I’ve owned in the past several years and promote them to exponentially grow my traffic. I don’t want to do that, though.
I’ll talk about the guns I want to talk about, and my YouTube is an example of this. Gun videos are one thing, gun reviews are another.
If you say anything out of the way about Brand X or Caliber Y or Platform Z, you spend all day sifting through comments from a bunch of butthurt man-children.
It’s easy to swipe away a YouTube comment, but slower to go through comments and E-mails on WordPress.
Another Example is Ads.
Open another tab and go look at 5 gun blogs on the internet. Count the ads. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
Every single site I’ve looked at is completely covered in ads. You’ll never see that on Business and Bullets.
I’ve got enough set aside to pay for my domain and hosting for several years. I don’t have to cover my site in ads to pay the bills.
The only ads I’ll ever put on Business and Bullets are ads for my own products or services. I don’t currently have any, so there are no ads.
I’m free to do that because I live free. I don’t have to watch what I say out of fear that someone will pull advertisement from my site.
The best way to be free to do what you want is by NOT doing what you don’t. Easy as that.
HOW TO LIVE FREE
Three easy steps, just in case you haven’t been paying attention:
- Figure out what you really want.
- Put yourself in a position to take what you want.
- Actually do what you really want.
If what you want isn’t a moral or legal issue, you’ll be free to enjoy it. I do assume that only the good guys are reading my writing, but hey, you never know.
Don’t break the law and don’t act immorally. You aren’t living free if you’re in a prison or a psych ward. There’s your common sense disclaimer.
Oh, and here’s a bonus fourth step…
Come back and leave a comment telling me how living free is working out for you.
