Rhythm is a beautiful thing.
A smooth, steady rhythm draws you in. It makes everything seem effortless.
When you’re listening to a great rhythm, everything just flows.
Humans have had rhythm since the dawn of man. War drums and booming thunder make us come alive.
We even have a built in metronome. Our steady beating heart sets our tempo.
Your tempo is very important. I’m not talking about your heart rate, though.
I’m talking about your rhythm.
Have you ever had a sudden change of pace? I’m sure you have.
Your life was slow and steady like a drum. Everything was normal and natural, until it wasn’t.
Something happened and everything sped up.
This could’ve been a new job. It could’ve been a new relationship. It could’ve been becoming a parent.
Your life changed pace suddenly. Your life became harder. It became harder because you dropped the beat.
The beat goes on, though. Soon, you adjusted to this new rhythm. It became normal.
You became entrained to it.
Being entrained just means being adjusted. You’ve adjusted to your new rhythm.
Then, when you least expect it, life throws another curve ball. There’s a problem now. You miss a note.
Missing a note means having a problem.
You lose your job. Or maybe get divorced. Or maybe you suffer a serious injury.
Have you ever heard, “Life’s what happened when you had other plans?”
You can’t predict everything. You’re human. You can’t predict everything, but you can prepare for it.
You can live with rhythm.
Living With Rhythm
It’s your life. You set the pace. You are the conductor, you direct the music of your life.
The conductor can’t physically control the music. He guides the music and it flows.
You can’t predict everything, but you can minimize your risk.
You’re not getting fired if you’re the boss. You’re not getting divorced if you chose the right woman.
Things can still go wrong. The important part is you actually have a chance.
With a chance, you don’t accept defeat. You don’t just let things happen, you’re ready to make things happen.
You won’t skip a beat because you slowed down the tempo.
It’s easier to keep rhythm. The tempo is lower. You can stay on top of it.
When a problem comes along, you miss a note but don’t drop the beat.
Everything doesn’t go wrong at once.
If your business fails, you have your woman and your kids. You have a loving family supporting you.
If you didn’t choose the right woman, you have the money to fight for your kids. Get a good lawyer and fight.
If you’re seriously injured, you have your money and your woman. One to buy treatment and one to give care.
If you are living with rhythm, you’re living free.
You’re living with less stress. You’re removing everything that disrupts flow.
When you miss a note, you don’t skip a beat. You can give that one problem your full attention and solve it.
It isn’t what you add, it’s what you remove.
When you “walk the notes”, it means you’re playing too many notes. You’re doing too much.
When you do too much, you’re not living with rhythm. Never focus on what to add. Focus on what to take away.
Identify what interrupts your rhythm. Do this by asking a simple question.
What drains your energy?
How to Live With Rhythm and Never Skip A Beat
Anything that steals your energy is breaking your rhythm. It’s an extra note that doesn’t belong.
We live in a world of distraction. We live in a noisy world.
Become blind and deaf to see clearly and hear the rhythm.
You must become blind to the sights that drain you. Become deaf to every doubtful sound.
Know, though, that people who explain aren’t people who drain. There is a difference between “you aren’t” and “you can’t“.
Listen to those that know and explain. Be deaf to those that whine and complain.
Never suffer a nay-sayer.
If a person is stealing your energy, cut them out of your life. You owe them nothing, they will take everything.
If a habit is stealing your energy, break that habit. Become especially deaf to your own doubt.
You can be your greatest ally or your greatest foe.
It’s your life. You set the pace. You are the conductor, and you direct the music of your life.
If your life is moving in the wrong direction, be especially sure you aren’t blind to the man in the mirror.
Ask yourself another simple question.
How do you be the man you want to be?
By being the man you want to be. You live the life that man must lead.
Envision what his life must be. See it, then be it. It truly is that simple.
Keep it simple, friends.
The best rhythm is simple, steady, and slow. Don’t think that means you must live a slow life. It simply means your rhythm is steady.
There is plenty of time between missing a note and dropping the beat. You have time to catch up. You have time to fix the problem.
Anything that steals your energy doesn’t belong in your life. Don’t make simple things complicated.
If you live with rhythm, you’ll never skip a beat.
